Performers

Local hunters from the Kullorsuaq settlement act as our performers, visiting the research station at regular intervals, to join the time cycle of the yearly seasons to the time cycle of the daily life.

Earning your living by hunting in the arctic demands extented awareness of climatic signs and changes. Time is not the tick of the clock – it is the freezing of ice or the move of an animal.

Apart from visiting the research station, the four performers will visualize their individual perception of time, by recording situations describing the current of life and the cycles of the seasons. Recording one hour of video and sound every month, will add up to 12 hours material per person. Their shots will be orchestrated according to dominant colour and movement tempo, creating a view into the life of the settlement, where a non-linear musical dynamic, rather than a narrative model, is the common denominator of the visual output.

The following people from Kullorsuaq are interested in participating as performers for a full year.

Jørgen Christensen

Our host for our second stay in Kullorsuaq who ended up staying up late to tell us about the development of the settlement, the whaling, sealing and fishing. Jørgen was interested in participating from the moment he first heard about our project. His enthusiasm was a deciding factor in our choice of location.

Ole Eliassen

Annesofie met Ole in the wilderness on her first journey from Savissivik to Kullorsuaq. He helped collecting whale and seal bones, before Annesofie realised that it is illegal to carry them out of Greenland. Annesofie and Ole spent some time in the wilderness together standing on their heads.

Emilia Jensen

Our first host in Kullorsuaq, who not only let three of us stay in her home, but also later came to our camp with a proper feast of a meal. Emilia is married to the school master Sven Nielsen. She hunts animals and minerals – maybe she’ll find gold  in the quartz rocks some day. She is a member of the Kullorsuaq theatre club.

Lars Jensen

He is an invincible optimist, who does not think we should worry too much about global warming. He would like to use the opportunity to bid climate refugees a warm welcome in Greenland. He plays the guitar, jodles and sings songs from Billie Holiday to Greenlandic tunes. Lars is a hunter and active community member.

Jeremias Karlsen

Even though Jeremias does not live permanently in Kullorsuaq, it is hard to imagine that he will not have a role in the project. Jeremias is a painter and fisherman. He became very engaged in our questions regarding the nature of time and the role of humans in the changing Greenland nature.

Ane & Thimotheus Petersen

Thimotheus met Annesofie in Savissivik, and we both met him later at the whaling camp, where we enjoyed some long conversations. Thimoteus is a hunter and politician in the municipal council of Qaasuitsup Kommunia . He is married to Ane. They are both interested in participating as a couple.
